In a groundbreaking move aimed at elevating its operational efficiency and service quality, Kampala Water (KW) has unveiled plans to equip its Territory Leaders (TLs) with advanced technical skills. This strategic decision, highlighted during a recent meeting with KW-General Manager Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya, marks a significant leap forward in enhancing the company’s water distribution and management processes.

The core focus of this initiative is to empower TLs with comprehensive training in a range of critical field techniques. These techniques include but are not limited to; leakage repair, disconnection and reconnection procedures, meter removal and replacement, as well as precise meter reading methodologies. By equipping TLs with these diverse skill sets, KW aims to streamline its operations, minimize wastage, and enhance the overall quality of its services.

One of the cornerstones of this skill development program is the inclusion of Mapkit Usage Training. This component holds immense potential for KW’s territory leaders to gain a better understanding of spatial data analysis and geographical information systems. This knowledge will undoubtedly aid them in making well-informed decisions, optimizing resource allocation, and responding effectively to various water distribution challenges.

As part of the implementation, each Territory Leader will be tasked with reading at least 500 meters, thereby gaining hands-on experience in the intricacies of meter reading. This practical approach ensures that the acquired skills are not just theoretical, but also immediately applicable in real-world scenarios. This emphasis on experiential learning underscores KW’s commitment to producing competent and confident field technicians.

The initiative is set to foster healthy competition among KW’s territorial zones. The end of August 2023 will herald the commencement of zonal competitions, creating an environment where Territory Leaders can showcase their newly acquired skills, and that way inject a sense of excitement and motivation, encouraging participants to push their boundaries and consistently excel in their roles.
