In a remarkable display of community support and commitment, Kisenyi and Urban Pro Branches joined forces with the Kisenyi III community to initiate a thorough sanitation exercise. Under the able leadership of Ms. Veronic Matte, the Ag. Branch Manager-Kisenyi, and Finance & Administration Officer, Jamilah Nakakeeto, the teams braved adverse weather conditions to offer their assistance.
The warm reception extended to them by Mrs. Zainab Kagooro, the LC II Chairperson of the area, and the LC I Chairman of Kiguli Zone, was a clear depiction of the community’s appreciation for the support they have received. In particular, Honorable Zainab Kagooro expressed her gratitude to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) for its consistent backing of community activities and remarkable efforts in expanding water access points in Kisenyi III which has played a significant role in disease control, especially in combating cholera, while NWSC’s resolution of sewerage issues in the area was also recognized as a significant step forward.
The NWSC team generously supplied cleaning equipment, including rakes, brooms, gloves, and spades, for communal use. They actively participated in the community sanitation initiative while also conducting awareness sensitization to enhance local sanitation practices. Note that these community engagement activities are essential for fostering stronger relationships with all stakeholders, and are also a way of giving back to the community.
The sanitation initiative, covering informal settlements around Usafi Taxi Park and Kiguli Zone, saw the team diligently collect garbage and clear clogged drainage channels. The enthusiasm with which this initiative was embraced by the communities involved was something to write home about, and one couldn’t dispute the positive impact that collaborative efforts can have on a community’s well-being.
While addressing those present, Ms. Veronic Matte, highlighted the importance of stakeholder activities in enhancing community well-being. She urged residents to maintain consistent cleanliness within their neighborhoods to mitigate the risk of diseases. Whereas the FAO-Jamilah Nakakeeto from the Urban Pro Branch conveyed her gratitude to the chairperson for orchestrating the initiative and reaffirming NWSC’s unwavering commitment to supporting the community. She also advised the community to safeguard NWSC assets, such as prepaid machines and pipelines, to ensure uninterrupted access to cost-effective water services in areas with heightened demand.
After all was done and said, it is in order to acknowledge that this initiative driven by Kampala Water’s Kisenyi and Urban Pro Branches, alongside the Kisenyi III community , exemplified the power of community collaboration and the commitment to creating a clean, healthy, and thriving environment.
