Kasese is confident to end water rationing with the onset of the 2024/25 fiscal year, thanks to a major project aimed at addressing the region’s long standing water supply challenges. Historically burdened by rapid population growth and increasing demand, Kasese is now on the verge of a significant change that promises reliable water availability for its residents.

The initiative, supported by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC) top management and regional offices, Kasese local leadership, and various stakeholders, involves redirecting additional raw water to the treatment plant from an alternative source. A strategic endeavor set to substantially increase water production and improve service delivery to Kasese’s urban and surrounding areas.

The project will elevate total water production to 7.6 million liters per day, a significant increase from the current 3.5 million liters per day. This new capacity will comfortably exceed the present demand of 5.5 million liters per day, ensuring a dependable water supply for the community.

The enhanced water supply is expected to stimulate business growth within the first half of the 2024/25 fiscal year, bringing immediate economic benefits to the area.

Several key milestones have been achieved in the project including; A successfully laid 1.4km DN200 steel raw water transmission pipe; Completion of concrete works for the intake sump, dam, BPT, and alarm dosing unit; 95% completion of Pipe anchorage; and 95% completion of Pipe interconnections within the treatment plant.

The NWSC-Kasese area team is diligently working to complete the project by the end of the 2023/24 fiscal year, aiming to have the system fully operational and tested at the start of the new fiscal year.

Gratitude is extended to the Managing Director and the entire top management for their unwavering support, as well as to the regional office for their technical guidance. Special thanks go to the dedicated area team whose cooperation and hard work have been crucial in achieving these milestones.

As this significant improvement approaches, the Kasese community can look forward to the benefits of a reliable water supply. This increased availability will not only address immediate needs but also foster sustained growth and development in the region.
