Non-Revenue Water is a crucial issue for Kampala Water, costing the region billions of shillings as it represents water that is lost before it reaches the customer or is not billed for. Therefore, this issue requires a comprehensive and coordinated effort from all departments within the utility.

According to the General Manager Kampala Water, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya, Top management is in a position to provide the necessary resources, guidance, and should therefore take the lead in the fight against this cancer.

This, Eng. Lutaaya discussed this during a meeting earlier today as he tasked the region’s top management to significantly lead the struggle.

He hinted on the fact that Top Management plays a crucial role in the fight against Non-Revenue Water, and their leadership and commitment to addressing this issue can have a significant impact on the success of reduction efforts.

He added that Top Management should set targets and goals for reducing NRW and regularly monitor progress towards these goals in all branches. They can also establish a culture of accountability and responsibility.

He further stretched the need to inject strenuous efforts to fight illegalities like water theft, vandalism and many more.

Notably, the meeting comprised various teams thus; Asset Management, Network, Non-Revenue Water Department, Water Supply and Production, Water Quality and Maintenance, and Water Loss Prevention Unit.
