With the aim of ensuring effective operations, cost savings, improved customer service, and better resource management, Kampala Water has sought to team up with Water Wax Viten Evides International to build a system that will help manage and monitor the performance of water meters.
The meter management module intends to capture relevant metering data, supervision of metering installations, avail details of the meter i.e. size, type, meter seal, condition of the meter, identification of meter removed from customers’ location among others.
In other words, the system is to present account/meter history and it’s aimed to ensure integrity and easy traceability of the behavior and performance of the meters.
Present to mark this milestone was; the General Manager Kampala Water (GMKW), Eng Mahmood Lutaaya together with the Senior Manager-Asset Management Dr. Frank Kizito, Senior Manager Water Supply-Eng. Francis Kateeba, Senior Manager Non Revenue Water- Ms. Freda Bugenyi, the network teams and Senior Manager Inventory-William Luyinda.
While Eng. Lutaaya sought clarity on the effectiveness of the system in relation to meeting challenges the corporation has been facing with capturing relevant metering data, the rest of the KW team surfaced some of their expectations which include; knowing the lifespan of the meters, provision of customer meter data base and many more all geared at understanding the performance of meters installed and ensure financial stability.
Considering factors that affect meter reading accuracy, the teams as well discussed the new project which involves installation of smart meters to large consumers.
