The need for NWSC-Kampala Water’s Top Management to improve it’s working relationship with the contractors, compelled a rendezvous to discuss and resolve any issues pertaining to the contractors’ work and how best to improve the rapport between both parties for better service delivery.

During the sit-down, the contractors decried low trenching rates compared to the costs of labour and delayed payment by the Corporation to which KW Top Management Management responded by calling out the quetionable quality of work delivered by a number of contractors who fail to lay pipes at the standard 3 feet.

Payment to the contractors has indeed been overdue because of the substandard work delivered by some. However, both parties agreed that those whose work has fallen short of NWSC standards, rectify their work with 50% payment then the rest of it be paid when work is done to satisfaction of the Corporation’s expectations. With this, the backlog will be reduced with both parties benefiting.

Moving forward, the KW-Senior Manger Finance, Mr. George Opolot assured the contractors that once everything is rectified, payment will take not longer than two months.

The Kampala Water General Manager, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya, acknowledged the importance of the relationship between contractors and NWSC in keeping the promise of “Water for All” to customers. He therefore asked them to help in the fight against illegal water use, which costs the Corporation billions in losses every month.

With numerous new connections monthly, Eng. Lutaaya also promised better opportunities for the contractors in the near future.
