The operator echoed through a megaphone, words of praise to NWSC for bringing water to the village and at a very affordable price, ugx50 against the 500 shillings the locals have been paying. She went on to say that no words can express how happy the community is to finally have clean safe water.

Prior to the launch, a meeting was held in which the local leaders of the community and NWSC staff got acquainted. Following the introductions, the Senior Manager Water Supply-KW, Eng. Moses Bigabwa, promised those present, of the great service bound to be extended by the NWSC team before the them.

The Senior Manager Katosi Water Treatment Plant, Eng. Joseph Tweheyo detailed the function of the Katosi Water plant, hinting on the water production and supply process. He also requested the Local leaders of Sumbwe to work hand in hand with the NWSC to ensure exceptional service to the people.

The GM-KW, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya thanked the local leaders for supporting the NWSC in service of the people and asked for patience as the corporation works towards fulfilling its promise of “Water for All”. Eng. Mahmood requested the local leaders to sensitize the masses against expecting compensation from NWSC while pipes are being laid, but rather be cooperative and allow for everyone to have access to the clean safe water being brought closer to them. “Please, help us ensure the safety of the NWSC Staff and equipment as the works go on. We are committed to service and we intend to fulfill that commitment”.

Alluding to the domestic and PSP tariff, Eng. Mahmood went on to explain the pros of connecting to NWSC services in comparison to alternative sources with reference to the “community of the hour” where the lowest one can get a 20 liter jerican of water at, is 200 Shillings yet the PSP will only charge 50 Shillings.

The Member of Parliament- Mukono South, Hon. Kayondo appreciated the corporation’s efforts to bring a great service closer to the people of Sumbwe and asked his fellow leaders to work hand in hand with NWSC to battle Non-Revenue Water. “Let us fail to go backwards after registering such a great milestone. I pledge my support to NWSC because that is the only way we shall prosper”.

He went on to remind everyone that supporting the corporation charged with ensuring clean and safe water to the nation, means fighting the Coronavirus pandemic. “This corporation needs a lot of financial support to serve us in the fight against COVID-19”.

He concluded with a request for jobs for the locals in the area. This, he called, “a sense of ownership”.
