The Kampala Water region’s Non-Revenue Water stands at 38.1%, the highest of all the National Water Sewerage Corporation’s regions which continues to cost the corporation significant amounts of money.
In an effort to address this issue, the General Manager-Kampala Water, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya has introduced a new strategy called the “Opportunity Accounts Drive”. This strategy involves selecting 21,000 accounts from 27 branches in Kampala Water and placing them into seven huddles to ensure daily accountability. Eng. Lutaaya emphasized the importance of transparency and integrity among NWSC employees, especially those involved in NRW management, and has advised employees to reform any behaviors, such as tampering with meters, that may contribute to NRW.
Overall, NWSC is working to reduce NRW in Kampala and improve its financial stability through targeted investigations and a focus on transparency and integrity. By addressing NRW, NWSC hopes to be able to redirect resources towards serving customers more effectively and expanding its services. Through this new strategy and a commitment to excellence, NWSC is working to ensure a financially sound and sustainable future for itself and its customers.
