In a recent assembly at the Kampala Water (KW) Headquarters on Jinja Road, Eng Mahmood Lutaaya, the General Manager of Kampala Water, hinted on the imperative for training to elevate staff skills in navigating the digital era. The primary focus is to empower the teams to effectively counter illegal water usage prevalent in the region.
During the meeting, the Kampala Water management, in collaboration with the Water Loss Prevention Unit (WALOPU), explored innovative approaches to tackle the issue. Eng. Lutaaya emphasized the significance of integrity and teamwork in the collective effort against water misuse.
In a notable development, Lieutenant Jimmy Ogwal was introduced to the team as a way of emphasizing the crucial role of intelligence collaboration in combating corruption in the field.
To ensure the safety of the workforce, Mr. Godfrey Kalungi, the Chief Manager of Human Resources at Kampala Water, pledged to provide essential safety gear to the staff. He also announced the deployment of a standby vehicle for emergency response, specifically dedicated to the WALOPU team.
Underlining the importance of delivering results, Mr. Kalungi tasked the team with significantly reducing Non-Revenue Water (NRW). In a comprehensive discussion, the teams addressed night operations, investigative techniques, on-site water quality testing training, and formulated new strategies to combat major contributors such as bars, hotels, and markets.
In a final directive, Ms. Sharon Busingye, the Manager of WALOPU, advised the team to delegate the investigation of small consumer accounts to branches while intensifying efforts on scrutinizing larger consumers. She further emphasized the need to prioritize investigations on significant contributors and announced changes to individual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), specifically incorporating the evaluation of investigation quality. This adjustment aims to elevate and refine the investigative skills and techniques employed by each team member.
With a resolute stance, Kampala Water is determined to combat the persistent challenge of NRW in the region.
