The General Manager Kampala Water Mr. Mahmood Lutaaya while hosted on a talk show on STAR- TV UBC, assured the public of National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s
commitment to continue supplying water to customers during lockdown.
He said the new Katosi Water Treatment plant had delivered an additional 160 million litres of water per day to the Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso area. He noted that no disconnections would take place, however he appealed to customers who are able to pay their bills to do so in order to ensure service continuity hence avoid accumulation of bills.
He also clarified the tariff while alluding to the jerrycan model to best explain that water is the cheapest service in Uganda stating that the water delivered at customers’ household tap is only 83sh per 20 litre jerrycan whereas water at the public stand tap is at 25sh per 20 litre jerry can. He also encouraged customers to prioritise payment for water as they pay for other goods as well and further thanked customers who pay their bills in time for helping the Corporation continue providing services.
Mr. Lutaaya appealed to customers to guard NWSC assets because they are public assets and report culprits of water theft, explaining that the act denies service to genuine customers who pay their bills
