In the realm of corporate success, the significance of acquiring appropriate business analysis skills cannot be overstated. Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha, the Managing Director at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), recently emphasized this crucial aspect during a captivating mentorship session with his staff.
With a reputation for nurturing management and leadership skills in his team, Eng. Mugisha highlighted the pivotal role that additional competencies play in fostering career development and personal growth.
“Work diligently to attain a core professional competence qualification in your chosen field of expertise. This will serve as your focal point for mastering other essential job competencies,” advised Eng. Dr. Mugisha.
During the mentorship session, Eng. Mugisha also delved into the concept of hard-time leadership, underlining the importance of cultivating a shared understanding among team members while tackling challenges head-on.
“To win the allegiance of your team, you must demonstrate an unwavering commitment to resolving challenges and maintain regular communication regarding the problem, past attempts, viable solutions, and a clear and concise action plan,” expressed the MD.
He went on to explain that fostering an environment of empathy and positive thinking is paramount. Such an environment encourages the free flow of ideas within the organization, fostering open feedback channels that prove invaluable in effective leadership.
“Both formal and informal approaches must be employed to stay informed about the workings of the organization,” asserted Dr. Silver, emphasizing that some of the most valuable insights are often gleaned from seemingly unconventional sources.
In his presentation, Eng. Mugisha highlighted the significance of emotional intelligence, revealing that formal approaches facilitate the organization and analysis of known data to address real-life problems.
He emphasized that leadership involves setting the tone for effective problem-solving and creating incentives that inspire team members to contribute their ideas wholeheartedly. On the other hand, management entails planning, organizing, and implementing day-to-day operations.
“Take overall responsibility and identify trusted champions, the 20% of actors that will yield 80% of the desired results – emotional intelligence is key here!” advised Eng. Mugisha enthusiastically.
“Adopt a mindset that condemns free-riding as a cancer that can cripple an organization’s productivity. Address this issue scientifically, transparently, and within the bounds of the law.”
By and large, as the Managing Director of NWSC, Eng. Mugisha sets a shining example of effective leadership, one that fosters a culture of teamwork, empathy, and continuous learning for the betterment of the organization and its dedicated workforce.
