DR. ENG SILVER MUGISHA REAPPOINTED AS NWSC MD

The Board of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has reappointed Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha as the Managing Director for a five-year term.

During a press conference, Eng. Dr. Badru M. Kiggundu, the chairperson of the NWSC board, praised Dr. Mugisha’s performance and presented him with a new contract until 2028.

“Under the leadership of the Board and Managing Director, NWSC has achieved significant milestones over the past ten years (2013-2023),” Dr. Kiggundu said.

“Due to the exceptional performance of the Managing Director and his team, the Board of Directors of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation, in accordance with Section 16 of the NWSC Act, has reappointed Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha as the Managing Director for the period 2023-2028,” Dr. Kiggundu announced.

Under Dr. Mugisha’s guidance, the number of towns under NWSC jurisdiction has increased from 23 to 268, and it is projected to reach 350 by 2028.

The number of people receiving piped water in areas served by NWSC has risen from 4.5 million to 18 million and is expected to reach 28 million by 2028.

Dr. Kiggundu stated that the number of customer connections has grown from 296,000 to 874,000 and is projected to reach 1,250,000 by 2028.

“Pipe network length has expanded from 5,073 kilometers to 22,000 kilometers, with plans to increase to 32,000 kilometers by 2028. Annual turnover has risen from UGX 155 billion to UGX 519 billion and is expected to reach UGX 700 billion by 2028,” Dr. Kiggundu added.

Under Dr. Mugisha’s leadership, assets under management have increased from UGX 650 billion to UGX 4,100 billion and are expected to reach UGX 6,600 billion by 2028.

Eng. Kiggundu expressed the board’s satisfaction with Dr. Mugisha and his team’s performance.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to congratulate Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha on his reappointment and wish him success during his new tenure of service,” Dr. Kiggundu wrote, while also requesting customers to continue supporting the corporation.

Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha, commenting on his reappointment, stated that it is a vote of confidence in the utility’s management team.

“I assure our valued customers and all Ugandans that the next five years will focus on accelerating our services across Uganda. We have an ambitious expansion agenda to ensure water and sanitation for all,” he said.
