The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is quite the example of excellence in Water and Wastewater management across the African continent, respected for its innovative approaches and steady commitment to excellent service delivery. Drawing from its wealth of experience, NWSC continues to inspire utilities with the most recent being, the Dire Dawa Water Supply and Sewerage Authority of Ethiopia, which was recently benchmarked from NWSC’s External Services division.

During their visit, the Dire Dawa team explored the intricacies of NWSC’s latest innovation: The Susteq prepaid meter. Led by the Urban Pro-Poor Branch Manager, Ms. Evelyn Mukajusi, alongside the Branch Engineer and Community Mobilizer Doreen Musiimenta, the visitors were treated to a firsthand demonstration of the meter’s functionality at the International Resource center (IREC)-Bugolobi facility. Witnessing its potential to revolutionize access to water, particularly in informal settlements, the team was captivated by its efficiency and effectiveness.

Enthusiasm was evident as the Dire Dawa delegation engaged in a dynamic exchange, probing for insights and best practices to replicate in their own context. Beyond the technological showcase, the visit provided an invaluable opportunity for the Ethiopian team to immerse themselves in NWSC’s operational framework. From Customer Service Management to Asset Management and Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management, every facet of NWSC’s approach was scrutinized with a discerning eye.

Armed with newfound knowledge and insights garnered from NWSC’s practices, the Dire Dawa team is poised to catalyze transformative change within their own utility.
