DEDICATE THE SPIRIT OF HARDWORK TO REDUCE NRW – ENG MUGISHA

It was joyous evening as the National Water and Sewerage Corporation hosted the annual Iftar dinner.

The dinner attracted her customers and various stakeholders to not only a sumptuous feast, but to also appreciate their support.

Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (saum), prayer, reflection, and community. A commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) first revelation, the annual observance of Ramadhan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam and lasts twenty-nine to thirty days, from one sighting of the crescent moon to the next.

The dinner is in line with Corporation’s Social Responsibility Policy.

The Managing Director Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha appreciated the customers and various stakeholders who made it for the dinner.

Dr. Silver expressed his gratitude to the muslim community for being a sign post for trust and hard work. He said the community is a great living example to benchmark on.

The MD emphasised on the sermon that was made about the spirit of love and hard work and this period should teach us to work as a team.

He hinted on the issue of Non Revenue Water, and he tasked the NWSC team to continue pushing for lower NRW figures.

He shared that he wants staff to dedicate this period, in the spirit of hard work and rethink how NWSC can tackle the issue of water loss especially in Kampala.

Dr. Silver Mugisha explained some of the challenges, i.e the way we measure our water, illegal water connections, physical losses, unauthorised and unbilled connections for example water used in fire fighting.

The Board Chairman Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu appreciated the Almighty for the gift of life and everything that He has given us.

Dr. Kiggundu acknowledged Top Management, Mufti and his entourage, and the NWSC staff who never shy away for the annual Iftar dinner invitation.

He thanked the muslims for observing the holy month of Ramadan, that’s one of the pillars of Islam and hopes benefits are yielded from it.

He said the hunger we go through during the month isn’t easy but some lessons should be learnt from it like patience, temperance through self-restraint, discipline and diligence.

He said people think water should be free, but it should be understood that the corporation goes through a lot to provide clean safe water for its customers which isn’t done for free.

Dr. Kiggundu was grateful for the retribution rendered to NWSC when the service is provided to the customers.

The Board Chairman concluded by sharing the mandate of NWSC “Water for All” and that the Corporation will continue providing clean safe water to its citizens.

The chief guest Dr. Sheikh Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga Director of sharia law representating His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, On behalf of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council thanked the Corporation for preparing the Iftar dinner.

Dr. Ziyad saluted the muslims for having reached the final days of the holy month and prayed Allah accepts our fasting, rewards us with His mercy and forgiveness.

The Director of Sharia Law hinted on the importance of water has been explained in many verses of the Holy Quran. Similarly, every living thing has been created from water by Almighty.

On behalf of the Mufti of Uganda he expressed joy and gratefulness to Top Management for fulfilling the generous contribution of 30,000,000shs towards the renovation of the National Mosque located in Old Kampala.

The General Manager of Kampala Water Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya presided over the event of appreciating our customers and rewarded them with gifts that were organised by Management.

The GM concluded that Ramadan is about spiritual rejuvenation, internal reflection and praying to Allah for guidance and good life.
