This morning, a team from Kampala Water, with the General Manager (GM) Kampala Water- Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya at the helm, embarked on a walk from the heart of Kampala City to Nsambya Babies Home, an abode to several orphans and children without parents.
The team comprised of NWSC-Kampala Water Branch and Sub-Branch Managers, Zonal Senior managers and the Public Relations team. This walk dubbed the CWAS-Nsambya Vulunerable Babies & ChildrenCharity Walk 2023, constituted several partners from the various sectors including banking partners, the Church, government institutions, private sector businesses and schools amongst others.
The event is aimed at fundraising support and contributions from the public in the different capacities so as to enable the orphanage to carry on her good work in caretaking and sheltering the less privileged babies & children with more emphasis put towards feeding, clothing, educating and maintaining a sustainable project even in the future.
Monsignor Charles Kasibante, the Vicar General Kampala, welcomed all the walkers in their different capacities and appreciated all forums for their effort, support and contributions towards the maintenance and success of the Nsambya Babies Home.
He shared that it is only but the beginning, and encouraged the mass to keep supporting and work towards child welfare individually and as a group. ‘There’s a need for the children to have a home and shelter and to be raised well’ he expressed.
He also shared that the home is not well known and the walk was as well aimed at bringing to the public the good deed that is being done and as much seek for further funding from as many people as can do.
The Chief Guest of the occasion was Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya, GM-KAMPALA WATER, on behalf of the Managing Director-NWSC, Dr Eng. Silver Mugisha. He thanked all parties involved for the establishment of the facilities within the institution, and elatedly showed his gratitude to all sponsors for their roles in taking care and lessening the burden in support of the noble cause.
He as well thanked all members that managed to join the walk, the home administration, direct caretakers, nurses and the whole team for organising the event.
He expressed the need for support, compassion and encouraged the different sponsors to enable the institution shun away from begging but rather generate funds for sustainability projects.
On that note, the Chief guest announced a five million shillings’ contribution from National Water and Sewerage Corporation in support of the ongoing project as a Corporate Social Responsibility. All the KW zones also raised various consumable items in kind towards this good cause .
‘Empathy is something we need to connect with and as NWSC, we pledge to work together, provide technical support and fertilizers for the project running’ Eng. Mahmood elucidated.
He also expressed that as an institution, Kampala Water and National Water and Sewerage Corporation as a whole continues to pledge support to all her customers. He encouraged the masses to always reach out in case of any issues of concern they need to be addressed.
The event started and ended with the National and East African Anthems and as well, opening and closing prayers led by the Vicar General Kampala.
Also in attendance was Senior Manager-CEZ Otto Pacific Methodious , Senior Manager CBD Ms Kukunda Annet and Manager PR, Vivien Newumbe. Susan Namuddu and Denis Rutaro represented SM-KEZ and SM-WEZ respectively.
