In a bid to tackle water-related challenges faced by residents in the informal settlements of Lubya and Kosovo within Rubaga Division, a significant collaborative effort was set in motion as a delegation from the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), led by the Kampala Water General Manager, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya, Urban Pro Poor Branch (UPPB) Manager, and UPPB Engineer, recently met with representatives from the Rotary Club-Kigo and Community Empowerment For Village Development (CEFOVID) to discuss solutions.
During the meeting, the Rotary Club of Kigo and CEFOVID shed light on their rationale for choosing these particular locations for the installation of Public Standpipes (PSPs). Key concerns revolved around issues such as distance, overcrowding within the communities, and the affordability of water per Jerry can. These factors underscored the pressing need for immediate intervention.
Eng. Lutaaya, while praising this commendable initiative, emphasized the importance of understanding the unique challenges faced by the residents in Lubya and Kosovo. He also seized the opportunity to introduce NWSC’s prepaid water system, highlighting its advantages and potential benefits in comparison to the PSPs.
The synergy between these organizations is a demonstration of what can be achieved when dedicated individuals and institutions come together to address critical community issues.
