Tanzania’s Bakhresa Group is setting up a cutting-edge beverage production plant in Mukono district, and this new multibillion-shilling investment is bound to have wide-reaching economic implications, particularly for the National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), which has committed to supporting the new facility’s water supply needs efficiently and sustainably.
NWSC’s Mbalala Branch Manager, Mr. Abbey Sserunkuma, hinted on the expected benefits, noting that the project’s initial production phase could increase water sales by 60,000 cubic meters. “We anticipate a considerable rise in revenue,” Mr. Sserunkuma stated, estimating the increase will contribute an additional 300 million shillings to Kampala Water’s billing.
The upcoming Azam Beverage Production Company, part of Bakhresa’s well established Azam brand, will manufacture a range of products including sodas, energy drinks, and yogurt. The project is slated for construction this month, November 2024 within Mukono Industrial Park.
To meet the anticipated demand, NWSC will extend its DN150mm UPVC pipeline by two kilometers to reach the new plant site. While the facility’s construction phase will initially require an estimated 100 cubic meters of water per day, daily consumption is projected to escalate to 2,000 cubic meters once production reaches full capacity. This increased demand will support revenue growth at the Mbalala Branch and assist NWSC in achieving its sales and revenue targets.
Founded in 1975 by Mr. Said Salim Awadh Bakhresa, the Bakhresa Group operates across 15 divisions, with a well-established reputation for delivering quality products at competitive prices.
