The technical team of Kampala Water (KW) convened at the region’s Jinja Road offices to outline their targets for the new financial year (FY) 2023/24, which commenced last week on Saturday 1st July 2023. The primary focus of the meeting was to devise strategies to expedite service delivery, enhance sales, and tackle the issue of Non-Revenue Water (NRW) in the region.

Chairing the meeting, Ms. Freda Bugenyi, the Acting Senior Manager-NRW, expressed her gratitude to the team for their unwavering dedication in combating NRW in the region. She further highlighted the progress made, with NRW standing at 39.6% at the close of the previous financial year, 2022/23, compared to 40.7% in FY 2021/22.

Bugenyi urged the team to assume full responsibility for addressing the issue, emphasizing the need to tackle all contributing factors such as metering inaccuracies, illegal water use, leaks/bursts, and more. She emphasized that achieving this objective requires providing technical personnel with necessary resources, closely monitoring branch-level activities, following up on NRW strategies, and conducting mass awareness campaigns through NRW kimeezas and other means.

In his inaugural speech, Dr. Nicholas Mwebaze, the Acting General Manager of Kampala Water and Senior Manager Billing and Data Management, reminded the team of the corporation’s mission to expand its business. In an optimistic tone, he encouraged them to channel their efforts into tangible interventions that would improve performance. He also highlighted the positive sales and billing figures from the previous month, reaching 5.145 million units and 27.6 million units, respectively.

During the meeting, teams shared their accomplishments from the previous FY and outlined their plans for the new FY. They also established several resolutions, including analyzing billing and sales performance based on annual and monthly targets rather than the previous month alone. Additionally, the production team committed to continuing the optimization of operations.

KW is fully dedicated to meeting the expectations of its customers while also striving to grow its business. With the strategic targets set for FY 2023/24, the company is poised to accelerate service delivery, boost sales, and effectively address the challenges posed by Non-Revenue Water. By fostering a collaborative and proactive approach, KW aims to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve its long-term goals.
