In a recent session with the staff members of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Gulu area, Dr. Sylvia Arinaitwe, the Deputy Managing Director of Finance and Corporate Strategy, emphasized the importance of being solution-driven and working SMART. Her address touched upon key challenges faced by the corporation, particularly the issue of unpaid customer bills, and urged the team to make concerted efforts to overcome these obstacles. With a focus on revenue generation and resilience, Dr. Sylvia highlighted the corporation’s determination to support the Gulu area in achieving its targets.

Dr. Sylvia expressed concern over the number of customers who had not paid their bills despite continuing to use the corporation’s services. She emphasized the vital role of customer payments in sustaining the provision of quality water supply and sewerage services. To tackle this issue, she called upon the team to leverage all available resources and diligently collect outstanding payments to reduce arrears.

Addressing the staff, Dr. Sylvia stressed the significance of every member’s involvement in revenue generation. She emphasized that participating in this essential aspect of the corporation’s operations would keep individuals fit, relevant, and connected, enabling them to act from an informed position. The Area Manager, in particular, was highlighted as having a crucial role in driving revenue, fostering a collective effort towards achieving targets.

Dr. Sylvia highlighted the need for the Gulu area to meet its set targets on billing, collection, and Non-Revenue Water (NRW). She acknowledged the challenging economic times but encouraged the team to remain resilient in their efforts. By meeting these targets, the Gulu area can contribute significantly to the overall success of NWSC.

Expressing gratitude towards the Gulu team, the Deputy MD assured them of unwavering support from top management. Recognizing the area’s recent good performance, she praised their achievements and motivation by presenting a token of appreciation—a UShs 700,000 “handshake.” This gesture symbolized the organization’s commitment to reward and recognize excellence.
