A team of 23 Kampala Water Technicians have successfully concluded six months of intensive training at the Vocational Skills Development Facility (VSDF) under Training and Capacity Development (TCD). This achievement signifies a pivotal moment in their career development and promises to enhance service delivery across the nation. The Vocational Skills Development Facility (VSDF), operating under the umbrella of Training and Capacity Development (TCD), has earned a reputation as a center of excellence. Its primary mission is to train technicians from various corners of the country, fostering their professional growth while contributing to the corporation’s overall improvement.
Since 2017, the facility has diligently prepared and presented four cohorts of workers’ PAS candidates across nine faculties. Additionally, it has offered one cohort of Full Occupational Qualifications in Industrial Plumbing and Electromechanical Technicians.
The recent accomplishment at VSDF involved three faculties: Industrial Plumbing (IPL), Water Treatment Plant Technicians (WTPTs), and Electromechanical Technicians (EMTs). Over the course of six months, these technicians pursued the FOQ equipment, equivalent to a national diploma (Foundation Degree) as recognized by DIT (Department of Industrial Training).
Their journey was characterized by rigorous modules covering Operations, Maintenance, Drawings, Hydraulics, Entrepreneurship, and more. The training was expertly conducted by Mr. Efearel Solomon Frunk, Ms. Christine Ideu Opolot, Mr. Okello Christopher, and Mr. Makoba Robert, all under the watchful guidance of SM-TCD, Mrs. Joyce Bakiire, TA Ochwo Anthony, Ms. Christine Amuchu, and Mr. Edison Muzahura, as directed by SD-BSS, Dr. Rose Kaggwa.
One of the defining moments of this journey was the Entrepreneurship segment, facilitated by Mr. Efearel Solomon Frunk and Mr. Opedun Peter Mark. Mr. Frunk emphasized a critical distinction: “Entrepreneurs sniff opportunities while common men wait to see opportunities.” This resonated deeply with the technicians, drawing from Patrick Bitature’s wisdom shared during the Wealth Creation Conference in Gulu in 2021.
The closing remarks, conveyed by the administrative team at VSDF, left the technicians inspired and motivated to forge ahead. They were reminded of Steve Jobs’ words: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life… have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
As they await assessment, these technicians are urged to apply what they have learned, driving positive change in NWSC’s operations and enhancing their personal performance.
The closing remarks also brimmed with gratitude. Top management and the MD were acknowledged for their unwavering support of staff capacity development. Special recognition was extended to SD-BSS, TCD, and VSDF for their instrumental roles in implementing the training. Instructors Efearel Solomon Frunk, Christine Ideu Opolot, and Christopher Okello were commended for their dedication and expertise at the forefront of this transformative journey.
The completion of this six-month training program marks the personal growth of these technicians, and is also a significant step towards a more skilled and innovative workforce for NWSC.
