In a noteworthy step towards community engagement and sustainable development, a consultative meeting with representatives from the Kitagata micro-catchment took place on the 17th of September 2023. The picturesque setting of Atusimwe Gardens in Kitagata Town Council, Sheema District, played host to this significant gathering. Representatives hailing from the three districts of Sheema, Mitooma, and Bushenyi were cordially invited to participate. The meeting’s primary focus was to facilitate a comprehensive understanding and internalization of the press release issued by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in the New Vision newspaper on Friday, September 1st, 2023. Furthermore, the representatives were tasked with disseminating this crucial information among their fellow Project Affected Persons (PAPs).

One of the meeting’s significant outcomes was the selection of three dedicated members from the PAPs residing in the three respective districts. Kyaawe Richard, Emma Kyamutetera, and Bagwa Posiano, representing the districts of Sheema, Bushenyi, and Mitooma respectively, were entrusted with the vital responsibility of collaborating with the consultant from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Together, they will provide additional clarification to PAPs when necessary, ensuring that everyone is well-informed about the project’s intricacies and implications.

A spirit of unity and cooperation prevailed throughout the meeting, resulting in a unanimous decision to allow the consultant to proceed with their planned activities without any hindrance. The attendees wholeheartedly pledged their unwavering support to NWSC and the consultant, emphasizing the importance of a harmonious partnership. Their gratitude was extended to the Managing Director of NWSC, Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha, who played a pivotal role in averting the project’s relocation, providing the community with a second chance for progress.

As Kitagata micro-catchment moves forward, it does so with a shared vision, a deeper understanding of its objectives, and a commitment to working hand in hand with all stakeholders. It is a story of hope, unity, and determination, ensuring that this project will not only endure but also thrive, benefiting the community and the environment alike.
