Earlier today, 20 Kampala Water staff graduated with a Certificate in International Computer Driving License from Clarke International University-Kampala.

The course sponsored by the Standard Chartered bank and facilitated by International Computer Driving License (ICDL) digital skills standard, was characterized by a 3-month long course in various digital skilling modules such as; Big data, Cloud computing, Digital Marketing, Cyber Security, Internet of things, Online Collaboration, Presentation, Spreadsheets, and Internet of Things.

The staff graduated in a ceremony attended by various dignitaries from Standard Chartered Bank, ICDL, Clarke International University and Kampala Water.

The Vice-Chancellor of Clarke International University, Prof Rose Clarke in her speech acknowledged the ceremony as a significant milestone following another successful graduation from the institution, on 11th March 2023.

“Today’s graduation ceremony is yet another milestone for us at CIU, this, therefore, means that you are all welcome to the growing list of alumni. I would especially like to thank Standard Chartered Bank for the sponsorship they offered to the students graduating today.”

It is said that the bank spent not less than $500 per student in this program.

The General Manager Kampala Water, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya in his keynote address to the graduates, congratulated his team that graduated and in a special way thanked the Standard Chartered Bank, Clarke University and ICDL for the great opportunity they offered to his staff.

“It has been 3 months of hard work for most of you given the nature of our business but I’m glad you managed to brave the storm to the finals. This graduation is very important to us as Kampala Water, and we want to believe that our development teams will pick a leaf or two from these skills. From all your testimonies here, I strongly believe you will help Kampala Water achieve her digitalization dream. I want to believe that this skill is only the start, and we hope to bring all the other 2,500 staff on board for effective digital enhancement training”.

Eng. Lutaaya went on to talk about the corporation’s 5 decades of transitional operation from the time it was enacted and despite the progress made in the current decade, the corporation still seeks more elevation in the digitalization realm.

“The need for Digitalization has been at the forefront of our innovation goals, which are tailored towards serving our customers with ease. If you may notice, we recently rolled out E-bills which came along with some hiccups from the public but as I said earlier we aim at digitizing all our services and limit or do away with paperwork”, added Eng. Lutaaya.

The GM also threw the ball back to standard chartered regarding the loan processes and approval. We bank all our staff salaries with Standard Chartered Bank, therefore if there was a possibility of developing a loan approval program that doesn’t require physical signing then it will save us lots of time signing the bulk of loan files.
