Kamukuri water source is one of the gravity flow water sources that supply’s part of Ibanda Municipality in Kyarukobwa, Ibanda Cell, Katoma, Part of Jubilee street and parts of Kagongo cell among others. Following the heavy downpour being experienced in the area, complaints were made of dirty water from customers’ taps which compelled the Area Engineer to visit the source and discovered that the protected springs were washed away, transmission lines blocked with mud and debris.

The immediate action taken after the heavy downpour washed away the protected Kamukuri water springs was to have the distribution lines closed to avoid the supply of dirty water.

The planned action, however, entails that the Area Engineer has been instructed to mobilize all technical team staff and manpower to start the works to restore the water supply ASAP. The team was also to establish the magnitude of the damage on the protected springs and immediately carry out work to ensure effective and timely restoration of water supply as well as run radio announcements to notify the affected customers of the reason for the dirty water and no water at the moment.

The team in the last couple of days achieved about 50% of the work assigned and the major activities included; draining the dirty water from the collection chambers and sedimentation tank, desilting and unblocking the transmission line and washout pipes.

The team then embarked on pending works which included but were not limited to; spring protection to avoid the same occurrence during heavy downpours and run-offs.

With all work done, supply restoration was only a few steps away.
