In a bid to improve water supply in Lukaya and Kalungu, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC) management of Kalungu Area, supported by the Technical Advisor Greater Masaka Area, have over the last couple of months been implementing the transmission and distribution pipe network construction, building of pump houses, reservoir construction at Lusango under phase 1.

Static plant department took up the task to oversee sitting, drilling and development of two boreholes, designed and procured two borehole pumps, and carried out installation, testing and commissioning of the electromechanical equipment. All these are part of short term interventions to boost water supply services in Lusango and the surrounding areas of Kalungu.

To ensure that the works are completed satisfactorily, a team from the Central Region Office, led by the Senior Manager Operations Central Region Eng. Andrew Ssekayizi visited and tested the new installations under the Project.

The technical visit and launch entailed;

Testing and commissioning of a 2 stage pump system, pumping water direct to Kalungu, comprised of: testing and commissioning of installed 27m3/hr borehole pump set, expected to deliver 432m3/day to Lukerere booster station for further lifting to Kalungu reservoir, testing and commissioning of installed 32m3/hr booster pump set, expected to deliver 512m3/day to Kalungu service area, testing and commissioning of installed 60kVA standby power generator set at Lukerere booster station and, testing and commissioning of installed 7ltr/hr online chemical dozing pump for disinfecting water.

Testing and commissioning of a borehole pumping system to Lusango reservoir/ Bukulula system interchangeably, characterized by: testing and commissioning of installed 36m3/hr borehole pump set, expected to deliver 576m3/day to Lusango and Bukulula, testing and commissioning of installed 60kVA standby power generator set at Lukerere booster station and, testing and commissioning of installed 7ltr/hr online chemical dozing pump for disinfecting water.

As part of the visit, all the electromechanical installations were inspected for completeness and quality of the works. One by one, the respective equipment was tested to check their performance.  From the exercise, it was noted that the installations had all been successfully completed, and water was able to flow to the reservoir. The associated pipelines and reservoir were also tested to ensure that there were no leakages.

Following the completion and testing of the Project installations, all villages that have not been getting reliable water have seen an increase and stability in supply especially Bajja, Mukoko, Kirinya, and parts of Lukaya TC. In addition, some of the new villages around Lusango that previously had no supply but currently have water as a result of the Project include; Mwota, Mulo, Muge, Kyambala, Lugasa, Lusasa, Ddanda, Buyiikuzi, Kalungi, Lusango, Luvule, Lutengo, Miwula, Butongo, Kiti, and Kyajija.

NWSC is committed to achieving Water for All.
