During the launch of the Rwenkureiju Water Supply Scheme which was supervised by the Ministry of Water and Environment and handed over to National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa hailed NWSC for its impeccable service that has seen elevation of connection to safe water in several urban centers.

While speaking to the Rwenkureiju Water Supply Scheme project beneficiaries, the Hon. Tayebwa said the project was for the people and must protect the infrastructure. Urging them to pay their bills diligently, he also told the community that the water isn’t free because it has to be treated, pumped and distributed to the community.

Using the jerrycan model the speaker explained that at community level, NWSC supplies a 20ltr jerrycan at UGX25. NWSC recommends that the water supply agents should sell to the community at UGX50

The Deputy Speaker also said as long as there is value for money and water is provided, Parliament will support NWSC to continue the agenda of “Water for All”.

The water supply system which pumps 8m3/hr of water will serve a population of approximately 2600 people in the villages of Rwebitunda, Rwenkurizo A & B, Rugarama, Karokarungi A & B and Kashesha.

At the same event, Hon. Tayebwa met the Parliamentary Committee on Environment and Natural Resources of the 11th parliament headed by the Deputy Chairperson of the committee Hon. Kugonza Emely and they applauded the Corporation for the great work they are doing across the western region and the rest of the country. The Committee promised to intensify efforts to deepen water coverage in the district & will be stepping up efforts to ensure the fast delivery of water projects in the area.
