Late last month, Manafwa Area received 10kms of 2″ HDPE pipes for intensification of supply. The area then chose to carry out mains extension and two sub-counties namely; Khabutoola and Butta, were selected after assessment as per the highest demand for water.
The excavation exercise commenced almost immediately and took only 3weeks. Notably, the first 7kms have been laid, charged and commissioned with 2 Public Stand Pipes (PSPs) constructed for the community whose delight to have water a few steps away from their homes, was unmatched.
The said PSPs were commissioned on 24th February 2022 and the exercise was characterized by a community sensitization to give the people a clear understanding of NWSC’s mandates, its operations and values. Key issues discussed include; New connections, tariffs, jerrycan model, modes of payment, billing cycle, how to monitor meters, toll-free numbers, clearly explained the reasons for scap100 and its benefits. However, the team also stressed to customers, key issues of vandalism, meter theft, illegal water use with its implications once one is found involved in the above-mentioned cases.
The LCV Chairperson appreciated NWSC for the quick interventions of ensuring all sub-counties receive clean and affordable water.
Hon. Werikhe Peter Christopher recognized and appreciated NWSC’s Managing Director for thinking of Manafwa/ Namisindwa by bringing services closer to the people. He further appreciated NWSC staff for their commitment towards service as he has seen tremendous results from all corners of the district. He also encouraged the community to respect NWSC staff and embrace the program by applying for new connections.
On an even more delightful note, Hon. Werikhe pledged to pay for 20 connections in the villages that will be identified and also cautioned the community against tampering with government property since it calls for harsh punishment.
NWSC MD is doing a great job, all areas without water will be covered and the next focus is on Manafwa town council,” concluded Hon. Werikhe.
The two lines of Butta- Kuufu 4.5km and Kabale- Kibanga 3km were then commissiooned.
