Buganda Road Utility Court earlier this week sentenced two men for theft of water meters after pleading guilty to the charge.  

Katongole Shafik who committed the offense in Namugongo has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment by Her Worship Kamasangu, while Ngabwa Frank who committed the offense in Kiwogola –Kira, has been sentenced to 12 months by Her Worship Marion Mangeni. 

Markedly, such economic crimes disrupt water supply to customers thus causing financial loss to the Corporation and, in a bid to curb these, WALOPU (Water Loss Prevention Unit) under NWSC works closely with Police and the community to carry out field investigations to catch water thieves and those that vandalize NWSC infrastructure. 

With more of such convictions, NWSC will feasibly see a decrease in these crimes.
