The Government of the Republic of Uganda (GoU), through the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), as part of her commitment towards increased provision of safe water supply and adequate sanitation to all Ugandans, has committed funds towards the improvement of Water Supply Services in Kalungu and Gomba towns.

The intervention encompasses construction of a new 4,000m3/day Conventional Water Treatment Plant in Bugomola center, with a raw water intake on River Katonga, 1,200m3 reservoir at Sala hill, and over 40km of N250mm treated water pipelines.

Against that background, NWSC’s Planning and Capital Development (P&CD) team comprising of; the Senior Manager-infrastructure Planning and Development, Eng. Dennis Taremwa, Senior Projects Engineer, Rita Nalumasi and Central Region Senior Public Relations Officer, Ms. Cream Treasure, has pitched camp in Kalungu area to witness the laying of the foundation for the project works to commence.

The purpose of the exercise is to; confirm the reservoir site for the proposed Kalungu water supply project, Engage land owners for the land acquisition process, Identify the most appropriate route for the in-let pipeline and, confirm the proposed sites, pipeline routes and their respective elevations among others.

The Area Manager-Kalungu, Ms. Sharon Atheino, together with the team from P&CD met one of the Catholic parish priest who is in great anticipation of the project.

“People in this area have taken dirty water for a very long time. Our people have been getting water from the wells and at times from the rain. We can’t wait to see National water deliver us from this dirty water, we shall be very happy”, Father Mukuru Nyanzi remarked.

Notably, designs for the water supply project are in advanced stages with the rendering process slated to commence in January 2022.

NWSC is committed to Water for All.
