The people of Sembabule have one more reason to smile as the long awaited Water Supply Improvement Project is now complete, and the Area can now receive reliable water supply services 24/7.

Swamped with a number of challenges, Sembabaule is a good place now considering the fact that when NWSC took over the Sembabule water supply operations in April 2016, the existing system was inadequate, the existing systems experienced frequent pipe bursts, system vandalism and more. Basically, the entire system need to be revamped to improve supply in the water stressed areas as well as meet the growing demand for services in the district at large.

To address the area’s challenges, National Water and Sewerage Corporation, in the FY 2018/19 initiated a project for the improvement of water supply services in Sembabule.

Detailed designs were employed, on the basis of which the construction works commenced in August 2020. The project was financed using internally generated resources thus; funded by the NWSC.

Progress reports have it that the construction works have impressively been completed in a year, and the Plant is now fully operational. Notably, the project has a production capacity of 3million litres of water per day which previously was approximately 300,000 litres per day. This development is sufficient to meet the water supply needs of Sembabule and the surrounding areas up to the year 2040.

Particularly, as part of the project works, a new 1million litres/ day capacity tank, 3 booster Stations, 3 new 100,000 litre capacity tanks, , and a new Administration office, among others, have been constructed whereas over 70km of pipelines have been laid.

With the new infrastructure, water supply reliability for over 170,000 residents of Sembabule Town, Lwebitakuli, Miteete, Mateete, Kabundi, Lutunku, Kyabi, Bisheshe, Lugushulu, among others, is now guaranteed.
