KISORO AREA’S WATER SUPPLY STABILITY, BOOSTED

Kisoro Area solely depends on Hydro Power supply from across the border in Rwanda, which is unreliable since the utility service providers UMEME and UEDCL have no full control over the operation and management of the incoming lines from the source. To guarantee reliable water supply particularly during uncontrollable power cuts from across the border, it is vital that the maintains standby power supply capacity at all plants and booster stations in Kisoro Area.

Against this background, Kisoro received three (3) 100KVA Diesel Gen-Sets to serve as backup power supply for three (3) Booster stations.

Notably, the Bukara Booster Station, a newly constructed booster under the Virunga Project is now fully set up as per design with both primary and backup power supply capacity of 100KVA Diesel Gen-set whereas Nyarusiza and Gasiza Booster Stations, newly upgraded under the Virunga Project are fully set up with both primary back power capacities of 100KVA diesel Gen-Sets as well.

This milestone is bound to increase the customer satisfaction index by avoiding a major water supply shortage in the service area due to lack of power supply and also avoid a major drop in billing due to the same.
