National Water & Sewerage Corporation with support from The government of uganda are on course to construct a Compact Waste Water Treatment Plant that will improve waste water management situation of Kiruddu Referral Hospital.
Currently, the hospital struggles with sewage overflow that spills over to the neighbouring community. This puases a health concern to the community. The hightech treatment plant will also help concerve and protect the environment.
The state-of-the-art treatment plant will be able to treat 150,000 litres of waste water per day. It will also exploit the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor technology (MBBR) which is favourble for space utilization, thus it does not require a large amount od space to setup.
The project is fully funded by the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Health, and will cost approximetly 2 Billion Uganda shillings and approximate time of completion is 8 months.
Nelson Obote, the Hospital representative was very pleased that finally the waste water project was taking shake. He mentioned that the poor sewage system of the medical facility had become a big challenge to the hospital and the community at large due to waste water overflows. He added that the households around will also benefit from this project.
Eng. Geoffrey Kasirikale (NWSC), who is the project Manager was glad that finally a credible contarctor had been identified. He urged the contractor ( Ecotech Limited and Enzotech Private solutions Limited) to work with in the timelines in the contract. He also said that should the contractor find any challenges, they should not hesitate to seek guidance so that the project moves on smoothly.
Eng. James Maiteki (NWSC) Then added that this week construction will begin, and engineers and security will be on site at all times to ensure smooth running of the project, and overall protection of site materials. He was pleased that the Site was finally handed over to the contractor because the project is time sensitive.
The contractor mentioned that they were more than ready to execute the project and promised to complete works in the stipulated timeframe. They said they fully understand the magnitude of the waste water problem, and are ready to provide a lasting solution.
