The MD of National Water and Sewerage Corporation Dr Silver Mugisha has told staff that productivity and cost containment is the only way the Corporation and the staff will succeed together.
The MD who is on a performance improvement tour of Kotido, Pader and Kitgum tasked staff to grow the business of the Corporation.
He told staff it is important to grow revenue so that the Corporation can grow surplus to reinvest in supplying water to those who don’t have.
He advised the areas to invest in understanding the business model and philosophy of NWSC.
He tasked staff to;
– prioritise having more water available for distribution.
-extend and charge pipes
-increase number of connections which will increase biking in turn and lead to more revenue collection.
He emphasized the importance of staff productivity to the corporation. He tasked the HR department to focus on understanding the real issues that affect staff because they make staff less productive.
Dr. Silver Mugisha reminded staff that NWSC operates in a commercial & financially viable manner in comparison with other civil service institutions.
He acknowledged a lot had to be done on the water production side due to the challenge of water availability.
He encouraged staff NWSC to prioritize personal development and think of the life after work.
He informed staff of the recent absorption of graduate trainees and support staff at degree level and soon. An advert will soon be run to absorb those who have worked successfully but don’t have degrees. He encouraged them to go back to school and advance as it will open more doors.
The Board approved the Corporate Plan and shall carry out scale adjustments based on the growth of the Corporation’s business and he encouraged staff to work hard and meet all there targets.
He encouraged staff to create good working relations with local leaders as it can ease working through certain challenges the Corporation faces in the areas.
He also wants staff to improve on there practical skills through Competence based training program.
He encouraged staff to change their mindset and find local solutions to local challenges. He decried the mindset of thinking of ordering parts from Europe and yet the same parts can be fabricated locally.
He advised staff to stay away from involvement in politics and stay committed to you work.
Dr Silver Mugisha lastly reminded staff to stay safe in this Covid era and encouraged them to get vaccinated as the Corporation will make arrangements.
