The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has embarked on a series of ambitious short-term water supply interventions aimed at enhancing water reliability for the residents of Tororo and Mbale. These projects, focused on Morukatipe, Kisoko, and Nyondo, are designed to address water shortages in key areas and pave the way for sustainable water supply solutions.

Revolutionizing Water Access in Morukatipe

Scope of the Project

  • Installation of a 266m³ reservoir at Tororo Prisons.
  • Construction of a booster station to facilitate efficient water flow to the reservoir.
  • Laying of a 5km, 6-inch transmission main to connect the reservoir.

Progress Update

  • The contract for the reservoir installation has been awarded to Oriental, and mobilization for construction is underway.
  • The booster station’s pump house has been completed, awaiting the installation of electro-mechanical equipment and power extension.
  • Pipes for the 5km transmission main are on-site, with trenching and pipe laying expected to commence in early December.
  • Pumps have already been procured, ensuring timely project completion.

Once operational, this project will stabilize water supply in Morukatipe, Kwapa, and along the Tororo-Mbale road, transforming water access for these communities.

Bridging the Gap in Kisoko

Scope of the Project

Construction of a booster station and a sump in Kisoko.

Progress Update

  • Both the pump house and the sump are installed.
  • Pumps have been procured, with pending activities focused on electro-mechanical equipment installation and power extension.

This intervention will alleviate water supply challenges in Kisoko, Achilet, Mwello, and parts of Nagongera, ensuring consistent and reliable access to clean water.

Uplifting High-Altitude Areas in Nyondo

The Nyondo project is tailored to improve water supply reliability in elevated regions, addressing the unique challenges faced by these communities.

Scope of the Project

    • Installation of a 162m³ tank at Nyondo Primary Teachers’ College.
    • Laying of 5.5km DN150-UPVC pumping main, 4km DN100-PN10 distribution line, and 7km HDPE-DN50 pipelines.

Progress Update:

  • The 162m³ tank installation is complete, marking a significant milestone in the project.
  • Upcoming phases include pipeline laying, which will extend water coverage across Nyondo, Nabumali Town Council, Namukongo, Bubirababi, and other surrounding areas.

This project ensures reliable water delivery to high-altitude regions, significantly improving the quality of life for residents.
