In a decisive legal victory for the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Makindye sentenced Nsubuga John to 30 months in prison on August 19, 2024 after he pleaded guilty to charges of theft.

The defendant was convicted after Officer Ojoo Patrick James led a police search on August 10th, 2024, which uncovered four (4) stolen meters and electric cables at Nsubuga’s premises, confirming his involvement in the theft.

During the court proceedings, State Prosecutor Jemimah Achingo presented compelling evidence that linked Nsubuga to the ongoing problem of meter theft, an issue that continues to disrupt NWSC’s services and causes financial losses.

Prosecutor Achingo’s emphasis on the seriousness of meter theft compelled Nsubuga to plead guilty to the charges, urging the court to impose a custodial sentence to reflect the gravity of the crime and its widespread consequences.

However, in considering Nsubuga’s status as a first-time offender, the court handed down a 30-month sentence.

The corporation’s efforts, supported by the judicial system, are making strides in the ongoing fight against vandalism and non-revenue water, ensuring reliable water services for all.
