NWSC STRENGTHENS WATER SUPPLY IN YUMBE AMID GROWING DEMAND

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is set to expand water supply coverage in Yumbe District through pipeline extensions, stabilization of water supply stability in already existing networks, and stakeholder engagements. This revelation came to light during a meeting between the Branch Manager of Yumbe, Mr. Arima Isa accompanied by the Branch Technical Supervisor, Mr. Alli Gift, and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. John Tumwesigye; LCV, Hon. Abdul Mahmood; Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Mr. Moses Kapolon; and District Internal Security Officer (DISO), Mr. Denis Ojje Anguzu, at the Yumbe District offices.

During the meeting convened to discuss critical issues pertaining to water supply, Mr. Arima presented a comprehensive overview of NWSC’s operations in Yumbe District, highlighting the significant achievements in water supply infrastructure development and addressed ongoing challenges in water distribution networks. Mr. Arima also outlined future initiatives aimed at stabilizing water supply in the district. Emphasizing NWSC’s dedication to enhancing water supply reliability, he detailed plans for expanding coverage through pipeline extensions and improving customer service. Strategies to tackle the district’s unique water challenges, including water scarcity, were also shared.

Hon. Abdul Mahmood, the LCV, expressed his concern of the pressing need for an increased water supply to meet the demands of Yumbe’s rapidly growing population, which has surged from 15,000 to approximately 60,000. He pointed out the urgent necessity for adequate water resources, particularly in Yumbe Town Council.

Responding to these concerns, Mr. Arima reaffirmed NWSC’s commitment to expanding water supply services in Yumbe District, and highlighted the corporation’s specific plans to extend water distribution networks to reach more households, upgrade existing water treatment infrastructure to increase capacity, and implement water conservation initiatives to optimize resource utilization.

The CAO, Mr. Moses Kapolon pledged his support for NWSC’s future water supply stabilization programs through budget allocation. He committed funds for critical water infrastructure upgrades, pipeline extensions, and water conservation initiatives, aiming to ensure reliable and stable water supply. This support is expected to significantly improve water supply services, enhance customer satisfaction, and contribute to Yumbe’s economic growth and development.

The stakeholders expressed their full support for NWSC’s endeavors, recognizing the corporation’s essential role in providing safe and reliable water to the community. They extended a warm welcome to Mr. Arima Isa and appreciated NWSC’s dedication to improving the lives of Yumbe’s residents through sustainable water management practices.

The meeting facilitated a productive discussion on potential collaboration in water resource management, infrastructure development, and community engagement. Topics included possible partnerships in water conservation initiatives and wastewater management systems.
