NWSC JOINS THE WORLD IN HIGHLIGHTING URGENT ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS DURING NATIONAL WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATIONS

Sironko District came alive on June 5th, 2024 as it hosted the national celebration of World Environment Day 2024, focusing on the theme “Land Restoration and Climate Resilience.” The event highlighted the urgent need for environmental conservation and the fight against climate change.

President Yoweri Museveni, represented by Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja, graced the occasion as the guest of honor. The event also saw the participation of various dignitaries, including members of parliament, district chairpersons, RDCs, and representatives of cultural institutions.

The day’s activities were diverse and impactful, featuring tree planting, community clean-up campaigns, and educational debates with local school students. These initiatives aimed to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues, particularly in a region that faces significant threats from landslides and soil erosion due to deforestation.

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) was well-represented at the celebration by a number of staff including; Mr. Kimbugwe Innocent, the Principle Commercial Officer; Mr. Israel Akugizibwe, Branch Manager Town Centre; Mr. Nyombi James, BM Sironko, and Principle Public Relations Officer-Eastern Region, Ms. Doreen Kapsulel among others.

In his speech, delivered by Prime Minister Nabanja, President Museveni emphasized the critical importance of environmental conservation and reaffirmed the government’s dedication to sustainable development practices. Nabanja highlighted the need for collective action to tackle environmental challenges and urged communities to actively engage in reforestation and other eco-friendly initiatives.

The celebration was a reminder of the collective responsibility in preserving the environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
