In a world where the essence of womanhood embodies nature’s very existence, where women symbolize virtue, strength, and grace, it is imperative to recognize and celebrate their invaluable contributions to society. March, known as Women’s Month, culminates in the commemoration of International Women’s Day on the 8th, a day dedicated to honoring women’s achievements and advocating for gender equality.
This year, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) embraced the spirit of Women’s Day by actively participating in various events aimed at empowering women and promoting inclusivity. Led by the Director of Human Resources, Ms. Eunice Alanyo, NWSC’s contingent joined forces with the Rotary Club of Naalya to celebrate women’s accomplishments under the theme ‘#InspireInclusion.’
The event served as a platform to recognize and appreciate the remarkable women within NWSC, represented by; Jean Kirungi, Gloria Bashemera, Joselyn Kobusingye, Noowe Barbra, Joyce Ataro, Atukunda Shallon, Caroline Kyomugisha, and Asiimwe Lynette. These women, representing different roles and regions within the corporation, exemplify the resilience and fortitude inherent in women leaders.
The evening featured enlightening discussions led by keynote speaker Olive Birungi Lumonya, Deputy Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority. Lumonya emphasized the importance of women’s inclusion in decision-making processes and encouraged women to overcome barriers and strive for leadership roles. The event also included awards and recognition for outstanding women members, fostering a spirit of appreciation and encouragement.
NWSC’s commitment to women’s empowerment extended beyond the Rotary event, as they actively participated in the “EMPOWER HER” Symposium organized by the Nation Media Group. Held at Hotel Africana Kampala, the symposium aimed to empower women through education, mentorship, and skills development. The presence of prominent speakers such as Ms. Betty Kamya Namisango Turwomwe, Inspector General of Government, underscored the significance of the event.
Ms. Kamya Turwomwe highlighted the importance of women in leadership roles and encouraged women to cultivate a leadership mindset. She emphasized competence over appearance and called for solidarity among women to promote each other’s success. Her words resonated with NWSC’s commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment under the visionary leadership of Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha.
NWSC further demonstrated its dedication to women’s well-being by hosting a luncheon focused on mental wellness at the corporation’s International Resource Center (IREC), Bugolobi. The event, themed “Inspire Inclusion,” provided a platform for discussions on mental health tailored to women’s experiences. Lady Christine Ntuulo and Lady Hellen Kirunda led insightful conversations on coping mechanisms, preventive care, and financial prudence, empowering women to prioritize their mental and physical well-being.
As a symbol of growth and resilience, attendees were gifted fruit trees, a tangible representation of NWSC’s commitment to nurturing a community of empowered women.
NWSC has simply reaffirmed its dedication to championing inclusivity, gender equality, and the empowerment of women.
