IMPROVING WATER SUPPLY IN FORTPORTAL AND KIJURA

The National water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC) efforts to enhance water supply in FortPortal City and Kijura Town Council are nearing completion, marking a significant milestone in the quest for improved access to clean water. The ongoing works, aimed at extracting more water from the Njara Reservoirs, are poised to bring about a much-needed stability in water provision to these areas.

Recent developments include the successful connection of upgraded reservoir outlets to primary distribution mains leading towards the city center and Kijura. Additionally, the installation of bends on the newly laid DN300 (12 inches) main distribution line for Kijura (from Njara to Hakabale) is underway, along with preparations for linking the new main line to the existing DN100 pipeline (from Hakabale to Nyamuhote).

Presently, at the slopes of Njara Hill, the focus lies on fabricating the DN350 (14 inches) Steel Manifold, which will serve as the main distribution chamber. This crucial component is designed to facilitate the transfer of water from the newly upgraded primary distribution mains (DN300) to the existing DN150 and DN200 mains supplying the city.

The dedicated team working on these initiatives is diligently striving to complete all tasks by February 25th, 2024 and they anticipate a noticeable improvement in water supply reliability that is bound to ensure that the communities’ water needs are met efficiently and effectively, upon completion.
