A recent workshop facilitated by the Ministry of Kampala Capital City & Metropolitan Affairs (MoKCC&MA), focused on the coordination and execution of the 5-year Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Program (GKMA – UDP). Playing active roles in these deliberations were Mahmood Lutaya, General Manager of NWSC-Kampala Water, and Bruno Musiimenta, Principal Engineer- Kampala Water.
As a key stakeholder, National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC) Kampala Water (KW), charged with ensuring access to clean and safe water across the Kampala metropolitan region, capitalized on the opportunity to present a comprehensive overview of its projects, accomplishments, future endeavors, and its contribution to the broader objectives of the GKMA-UDP.
NWSC’s contributions shed light on the crucial role of water infrastructure in supporting urban growth and enhancing the quality of life for residents so, the onus now rests on the MoKCC&MA team to not only recognize but also prioritize and adequately allocate resources for NWSC’s interests in the implementation phase of the urban development program.
The engagement was a significant step forward in fostering collaboration between key players in the pursuit of sustainable urban development, as the workshop served as a platform for constructive dialogue, allowing for the exchange of ideas and insights among stakeholders.
Moving forward therefore, it is imperative for all stakeholders to remain committed to the principles of transparency, accountability, and collaboration so as to build a vibrant and prosperous Kampala that meets the needs of its diverse population while preserving its natural resources for future generations.
