In an unexpected turn of events, the Branch Manager of Mbalala, Mr. Abbey Sserunkuma, and Branch Engineer Brian Chemonges, both affiliated to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC)-Kampala Water (KW) region, found themselves in an unforeseen predicament during the execution of their professional duties. The cause? An alleged trespassing incident that unfolded while they were diligently investigating cases of unauthorized water usage.

A swift response came from the Water Loss Prevention Unit (WALOPU), spearheaded by the Manager, Ms. Sharon Busingye and Lieutenant Jimmy Ogwal, with support from the OCCID at the Wantoni police station. Their mission was to intervene at the construction site where the two KW staff members were being held, and address the unjust nature of their detention. According to NWSC, the staff were merely engaged in a lawful investigation into potential illegal water usage.

The focal point of their inquiry was the property owned by Col. Moses Tumwesigye, revealing a meter bypass. A 100-meter service line was identified, providing complimentary water for construction purposes and subsequently leading to significant losses for the corporation. In a decisive move, the team issued an ICN to the caretaker, swiftly followed by an effective disconnection to stem further wastage.

The determination displayed by the Mbalala branch team and WALOPU in combating Non-Revenue Water (NRW) was an exemplary model of dedication and collaborative effort, and showed that in the relentless pursuit of securing water resources and preventing losses, the KW region stands firm.
