“He that loves reading has everything within his reach”, William Godwin. This sentiment resonated deeply with the Leaders are Learners Book Club which rendezvoused at the International Resource Center (IREC), and online for their monthly Club Fellowship the visionary leadership of Ms. Brownie Ebal, President of the Club.
The theme of the evening, “When Doing Your Best is the Only Option: How to Remain Productive and Fight Procrastination,” drew inspiration from the profound insights of Todd Henry’s book, “Die Empty” in a session that offered a unique opportunity to broaden their understanding and foster a culture of continuous learning.
Mr. Godfrey Kalungi, the Chief Manager of Human Resources at Kampala Water, and Guest Speaker of the fellowship, took the stage, sharing invaluable insights that transcended the mundane. Kalungi urged the team to cultivate mentors, set individual goals, be developers, and exercise financial discipline to avoid constraints. His emphasis on having a genuine spark for one’s work struck a chord, highlighting the undeniable link between success, relevance, and efficient skills in the workplace.
The significance of social capital and the pursuit of Key Result Areas (KRA) were highlighted by Kalungi, who posed a thought-provoking question to the audience: Do you have a genuine passion for the work you engage in? He emphasized that success in life hinges on staying relevant and cultivating efficient skills within one’s respective workplace.
Eng Mahmood Lutaaya, the General Manager of Kampala Water, and Patron of the Leaders are Learners Book Club, echoed these sentiments, encouraging the audience to embrace opportunities for personal development. Lutaaya emphasized the importance of challenging the status quo and consistently acquiring new knowledge and skills in life.
As the Kampala Water staff absorbed the wisdom shared at the LLC event, a clear message was gotten; continuous learning is not merely a tool for personal development but a powerful catalyst for positive change in both professional and personal spheres.
