National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has made headlines yet again! The Corporation’s selflessness in working towards the attainment of Uganda’s Vision 2040 has caught the attention of the wider public, who voted it as the Best Visionary Utility Government Agency of the Year at the 11th Annual Visionaries of Uganda Awards.
Organised by Visionaries of Uganda, the Awards Ceremony aims to recognize individuals and organizations that have excelled in the realization of Vision 2040. Over the last 10 years, the organization has been conducting surveys, and profiling companies and personalities whose innovative efforts have impacted on the lives of millions of people and accelerated Uganda’s social economic transformation.
This year’s event was held under the theme: Celebrating Inclusive Economic Growth and Dynamic Leadership, through Innovation, Value Addition, and Industrialization for continued Socio-economic Transformation of Uganda, and presided over by the 3rd Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Rukia Nakadama, as the Chief Guest.
It is worth noting that with Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha at the helm, NWSC has experienced tremendous growth, expanding its footprint from 23 to 273 towns, and customer base from 4.5 to 18.5million customers. By 2030, the number of towns under NWSC’s jurisdiction is projected to increase to 350 and the customer base to 28million people respectively.
In the same veil, the number of customer connections has increased from 296,000 to 874,000 and this is expected to increase to 1,250,000 by the Year 2030. The pipe network length has also increased from 5,073Kms to 22,000Kms, and is slated to increase to 32,000Kms by the Year 2030. The annual turnover has shot up from UGX 155Billion to UGX 519Billion, and is projected to increase to UGX 700Billion by the Year 2030.
NWSC’s recognition comes at a time when the Corporation is preparing the next 3 Year Corporate Plan, and gearing up efforts to achieve its Vision 2040 targets way ahead of time. This award is indeed a testimony to the Corporation’s visionary leadership, enabling environment, and good performance based work culture instituted by the NWSC Board and Management, and shared by all staff.
