(UPDF) Chief Political Commissar (CPC), Brig Gen Henry Masiko has advised newly recruited NWSC engineers and technicians that ideological orientation and a positive attitude are key to their success in pursuit of their careers.

Gen Matsiko, a special interest group member of parliament representing the UPDF made the remarks while meeting the NWSC inductees in Kyambogo university at the ongoing three weeks long retreat.

He thanked the Corporation for initiating the work force through ideological orientation but, recognised a big gap in Uganda in terms of outlook, mindset, ideological orientation and attitude.

He further hinted on attitude being very important and that it begins with an individual stating that so many Africans have an inferiority complex, hate themselves and become pseudo.

With that, he encouraged positive attitude saying that it determines how far one shall succeed in this life and is crucial for development. “One must have a spirit of inner working comitment and pay attention to it as it will give the individual drive”.

Gen Masiko defined ideology as being about deep understanding and a tool that gives an individual direction as well as one that society needs to solve its problems as a major skill for leaders. He stated that ideology being a tool, one would definitely need to work on it, put it in order and sharpen it. Otherwise if left blunt, one wouldn’t dig deep. This meant that one had to put their ideologies in order so as to solve a common problem with understanding and commitment.

Gen Masiko sited the various African liberation movements as “part of our African heritage and have to be understood and some principles need to be put in place like change and sustainability”.

“It is important for one to understand the role Nelson Mandela played in the liberation struggle for Africa”, Gen. Masiko said.

“The journey of man started in Africa but we lagged behind due to reasons like colonialism, fragmentation, disintegration of Africa and culture dismantling.We hoped independence would solve these issues. We have to harness and make use of our surroundings which will cause positive transformation”, he lectured.

Maj Gen Matsiko went on to remind the newly recruited NWSC engineers and technicians about the aspirations of the 1986 liberation movement of Uganda;

“For transformation to take place, we came up with the 10 point programme”.

The said points are characterized by; Democracy especially participatory democracy, Unity, Security, National Independence, Building an independent and integrated self sustaining economy, Restoration of social services, Fight corruption and misuse of power, Ensuring Karamoja catches up, Ensuring that we work with our neighbours to avert regional instability and, Following the strategy of a mixed economy.
